It is with a heavy heart that here at SEP, we pay tribute to the passing of our colleague and friend, Gary Marney.
Most of our customers won’t have dealt with Gary directly, but for anyone buying pump initiation boards or alarm valve booster pumps up until a few years ago, you will have experienced the expert touch of our very own ‘Gazza’. Gary started with SEP back in 2005 and was able to work (latterly part-time do to numerous medical complaints including diabetes, asthma, deafness, a stoma and regular dialysis) until his retirement in 2019. Somehow Gary survived at least two bouts of Covid but had been in hospital most of this year due to his worsening conditions.
In his teenage years, Gary was actually a rising star in Manchester football, but he wouldn’t mind mention of the fact that the drinking culture (which was all too common at the time) ultimately led to his downfall and he then developed a career in engineering, which was much to our gain.
Rob Bell, our MD, said, “Gary had been here nearly ten years when I arrived, so he was a little sceptical about my motives to begin with. We soon started to get on really well and he became like my ‘work dad’ – Gary was highly intelligent, and what he taught me about water pumps, electrical control and safety, product testing and drawing/design gave me the confidence to continue. His name will forever adorn some of our drawings, and I’ll do my best to carry on learning about the things he taught me.”
He never had a family of his own, but leaves his younger brother and sister.
Rest in Peace now, Gary.
