SEP Training on the road

SEP’s ‘in-house’ training sessions went somewhat ‘out-of-house’ recently, with a meticulously-planned trip to Writech in Ireland.

Many of our customers have now engaged with us on this service (and a big thank you from us), arranging for groups to attend our free sessions in Stockport – we calculate that around 200 people have now received the benefit of (or been subjected to, depending on your opinion!) what we can offer.

But, with such a big team unable to come to us, we spent some time figuring out how best we could bring the most important aspects of our training sessions over to the Emerald Isle. We spent months discussing with Allan Carey (Writech Ireland’s Senior Technical Lead) and the team in Mullingar the options, pros and cons of everything involved. A while ago, we settled on a week in the middle of May, which led to a very well-loaded car (you’d be surprised what a Honda Civic and too long playing Tetris can accommodate), an overnight ferry trip and some re-design on some of our demo equipment, by Rob our MD and Neil our Training & Quality Supervisor. Allan at Writech also developed a registration system including the function to raise all sorts of questions beforehand so that we could ensure everything possible was addressed during the sessions.

After spending an evening setting up and testing everything, there followed two long days talking to a wide range of Writech staff (field engineers, system designers, office staff, assembly technicians, and more), covering:

  • Pretty much every aspect of air compressors, old and new, 3-phase and 230v;
  • The workings of sprinkler pump initiation boards, and using air instead of water we were able to demonstrate everything required;
  • Zone Guardian installation, commissioning and trouble-shooting tips; and
  • Domestic and Residential pump set selection and sizing.

Rob was well-tested by the questions from the range of knowledge and experience within the attendees, and challenged by the different aspects of the coverage required by the different groups and types of employees…with only a minor sore throat suffered after 16 hours of discussion!

Thank you again to Allan for his hard work in arranging, and all of the 40+ people who attended and helped make it a great couple of days.

So, for any other of our key customers who can’t always come to us; please do let us know how we can best help. Most things are possible with good planning!
