At Sale Engineering we have noticed a recent increase in the number of requests for air compressors which are asked to perform at what are fairly low pressures and/or tight differentials. In fact, during the last quarter we have supplied over three times as many low pressure models than the previous quarter!
As many of you will know, our standard range uses a pressure switch with automatic unloader set at 2.8-3.5 bar which is relatively simple to set up and maintain – the automatic unloader is also beneficial because this is mechanically controlled by the pressure switch. Compare this to off-the-shelf compressors which are likely to be running anywhere north of 6-8 bar.
Low pressure (or low differential compressors) are a different ball game; a completely different pressure switch is required, unloading has to be done by way of a separate electrically controlled solenoid valve, and tuning the switch – especially when you are cutting in below 1 bar and out within only 0.2 or 0.3 bar – can be tricky and time consuming especially for less experienced technicians.
