We were thrilled to attend the BAFSA biennial Fire Sprinkler Conference & Exhibition in Cardiff this week.
As well as a chance to catch-up, brainstorm and idea-share with peers, the excellent programme of speakers and workshops provided some food for thought, as well as the latest legislation and areas of focus for the future of the industry. However, for us it was also the first chance to showcase the newly launched ZONE GUARDIAN!
The FS 2016 Exhibition was held across two days on Tuesday 15th & Wednesday 16th November, with the Conference day on Wednesday 16th November. It is perhaps the most important date in the fire protection calendar in 2016 with many BAFSA members keen to attend.
The programme included talks on:
- Sprinklers in dwellings legislation: Ann Jones, Deputy Presiding Officer, The Welsh Assembly
- Bringing Safety Home – Saving lives with sprinklers: Jim Pauley, President & CE, NFPA
- From competent to professional: Neil Gibbins, CE, Institution of Fire Engineers
- The need for sprinklers in schools: Sarah Lyons, Principal Officer, National Union of Teachers
- Clandon Park House Fire (April 2015) – Emergency response & insights gained: Bob Bantock, Heritage Fire Specialist, The National Trust
- Progress with a European Residential Sprinkler System Standard: Alan Brinson, Executive Director, European Fire Sprinkler Network (EFSN)
- Monitoring of residential sprinkler pilot studies in Wales: Dr Corinne Williams, BRE Global
- How do we know sprinklers work?: Dr Graham Spinardi, Senior Research Fellow, University of Edinburgh
- Sprinklers … In Wales and at home: Des Tidbury, Chief Fire Adviser for Wales
- Research and the future: Tom Roche, Senior Consultant, International Standards, FM Global
- Offshore fire suppression systems and the environmental impacts of salt water – tackling the issues facing the sprinkler industry: Simon Rooks, Operations Director Oil & Gas, Tyco FIS
It was an extremely interesting few days. We’ve taken away a lot of new knowledge, as well a number of enquiries for the ZONE GUARDIAN!
